2006-2007 Season - The Transylvanian Clockworks

Nigro investigates the Dracula myth in a powerful, complex, darkly funny and utterly terrifying vampire play unlike any you have ever experienced.

The Transylvanian Clockworks
By Don Nigro
Directed by Charles S. Waxberg

A twisted, darkly comedic take on the Dracula myth, pitting Victorian sexual repression against erotically charged Gothic horror.

What happens when a powerfully sensual Count from the dark woods of Romania obsesses over a photograph of three alluring women? What happens when that Count journeys to London where Jack the Ripper is eviscerating unaccompanied ladies? How does this affect Victorian men threatened by the Count’s hypnotic eroticism – which seems to have the power to unlace corsets? Don Nigro’s vision of what truly created the Dracula myth is especially relevant in today’s atmosphere of conservative repression.

The Transylvanian Clockworks featured:
Richard Clairemont as Dr. Van Helsing
Chad Evans as Harker
Jake Groshong as Seward
Samara Lerman as Mina
Cathleen O'Malley as Lucy

and Roy Stanton as Count Dracula.

"Expect the unexpected...Waxberg's production is sharp, probing and intensely erotic. This is a "Dracula" that teases shadowy intimacy and obsession from the myth, turns everything on its head and reveals a surprising new world." - The Seattle Times

"...Victorian morality butts heads with heaving Victorian bosoms...Period pieces are hard to pull off, especially on a limited budget, but Clockworks succeeds...a blood-soaked, eroticized Victorian vampire story" - The Stranger
